JOURNAL POLICIES
Use of artificial intelligence in the preparation of an article
In connection with the widespread use of artificial intelligence-based programs, including in the preparation and writing of scientific articles, the editorial board of the journal Actual Problems of Oil and Gas deems it necessary to draw authors’ attention to the following points.
- Chatbots, such as ChatGPT (and similar ones), under no circumstances can be listed as the author of an article or as a person who contributed to the preparation of the article. Programs and tools based on artificial intelligence do not meet the authorship requirements, as they do not (and cannot) bear responsibility for the presented work, cannot declare the presence or absence of conflicts of interest, and cannot manage copyright.
- The use of chatbots or other artificial intelligence-based programs is PROHIBITED when writing the TEXT of the article and METADATA or for generating images. In some cases, such programs can be useful for editing text, finding additional literature sources, and collecting and analyzing data. However, it is important to consider that chatbots often provide users with false information (literally “inventing” non-existent facts and references to publications that never existed), so authors need to verify the information received from chatbots.
- In case an artificial intelligence-based program was used for TEXT EDITING, SEARCHING FOR ADDITIONAL LITERATURE SOURCES, DATA COLLECTION, AND ANALYSIS, it is necessary to indicate this information in the article. Always specify the version of the program and the date of use. The responsibility for the final text of the article submitted for review to the journal Actual Problems of Oil and Gas rests solely with the author, regardless of which artificial intelligence programs were used and to what extent.
- The editorial board of the journal Actual Problems of Oil and Gas uses the Antiplagiat module, which allows for the detection of generated text.
- No confidential materials can be transferred to the generative AI chatbot when the editor and reviewer are working on the article.
The journal Actual Problems of Oil and Gas shares the position of the international publishing community regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the preparation of scientific articles, as outlined in the following documents: Chatbots, Generative AI and Scholarly Manuscripts (WAME Recommendations on Chatbots and Generative Artificial Intelligence in Relation to Scholarly Publications); Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Decision Making.
